Welcome to Abundant Faith

Abundant means – occurring in large amounts

Faith means- firm belief in something for which there is no proof.

Faith occurring in large amounts. Abundant Faith. This will make sense I promise. As I struggled with the title and how to start this blog, I really wanted you to be able to follow where I had been and where we were going. I’m sure you have heard the saying “walk by faith”? This is my story. As many have felt walking by faith is difficult but rewarding at times….tiresome at times….and honestly……just plain hard. One of the greatest test of my faith came on June 5, 2016. I thought I was going to have a much needed relaxing vacation on the beach of Mexico with friends. However, at 9:45pm on Sunday June 5, 2016, my life changed forever.

The first time I experienced Mexico, the salty breezes, having breakfast by the ocean, enjoying the warm tropical sunshine with great friends. Little did I know that by 10pm that night everything that I knew to be normal would never be normal again.

A storm blown in that evening in Mexico, I’d never seen anything quite like it. Rain was blowing sideways, you know like you see in the movies, it was like that. Activities were being cancelled for the evening.  We decided to have dinner together as a group. I checked in with my kids before I went and every thing was as normal as it could be. You see I have an older son that had been diagnosed recently with a rare seizure disorder which has side effects of high anxiety and strange episodes, so he was experiencing some of this but nothing out of the ordinary.  His two brothers and sister and myself had planned and organized this trip, we had discussed the options and the what if’s we thought we had thought of all the different things that might happen and what would need to be done “what if”. But there are some things you just can’t plan for……..

We go to dinner and have a wonderful time,Wonderful food, wonderful atmosphere. After dinner we go to one of the Villa’s to watch a movie and relax for the evening. Keep in mind the storm is continuing to rage outside. It thundering, lightening and the rain is just unbelievable! It was about 9:15 the storm was beginning to really pick up and we decided we’d better go back to our room while we could without getting soaked.  As soon as we arrived back at the room I turned on my cell phone not realizing that my life was about to change forever!

The text message that came through first was from my son Zach: Mom call us 911, my heart sank! Then the voice messages started hitting my phone. Message from Adam: Mom I Need YOU!!! . Message from Rachel: Mom it’s me please call one of us whenever you get this we need you (she’s crying)! My mind is barely functioning. I call Zach first.

The phone is ringing……..Zach answers on the first ring.

Zach- “Mom are sitting down”

Me-“Zach what’s going on”

Zach-“There’s been an accident”

Me-“What are you talking about I just talked to you”

Zach- “Josh has had to be life lined to Methodist. There was an accident with Josh & Adam”

Me- “WHAT????? Where’s Adam?”

Zach- “He’s right here with me”

Me-” Put him on the phone please”

Adam-” Mom – sobbing…….

Me-“Adam this isn’t your fault whatever happened it’s not your fault, I love you, it’ll be ok……..

This time of trying to console my son who thought he was responsible for the accident, trying to grasp my other son had been life lined to Methodist, my children are at the hospital by themselves and I’m in Mexico, with a raging storm going on was the beginning  of my true walk by faith journey.
